Oshkosh Defense Receives Heavy Equipment Contract

Oshkosh Defense has received a new 9.4 million-contract modification from the US Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM), Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC).

The contract begins the durability and performance testing of the new Oshkosh Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) A1. The platform testing taking place at the Yuma Proving Grounds will involve specific performance, maintenance and survivability enhancements.

The Class 8 sized HET A1, is designed to rapidly transport main line battle tanks, fighting and recovery vehicles, armored vehicles and construction equipment, and their crews, to arrive on scene in mission-ready condition. The company’s latest platform includes increased horsepower, higher capacity front suspension components, an armor ready cab, electrical upgrades, and improved diagnostic features.

Upon completion of testing, full-production of the HET A1 is scheduled for early 2010.

Oshkosh also builds specialty commercial trucks.
